Have you scheduled preventive maintenance for your heat pump yet this summer? Even if you last had it done less than a year ago, it’s still very important that you have the system professionally checked out every summer. Heat pumps need maintenance twice as often as other climate control systems. Read on to find out why.
Preventive Maintenance
Waiting around for a problem to present itself before calling for repairs is not a smart thing to do. This is because the majority of heat pump problems do not present any identifiable symptoms until they’re quite far advanced. By the time you notice that your heat pump has a problem, it will likely be far more expensive to fix. Preventive maintenance allows your technician to find and fix problems before they have the chance to develop that far. As long as you’re careful to schedule preventive maintenance at least twice a year, you can save thousands of dollars in repair costs.
Bi-Annual Maintenance
Normally, preventive maintenance once a year is sufficient to keep a climate control system in good condition. The reason this doesn’t work for heat pumps is because they actually accumulate twice as much wear and tear as a normal heating or air conditioning system. Those systems have only one stressful time of year, while heat pumps have to contend with both extreme heat and cold. This is why it’s so important that you schedule bi-annual maintenance, so that you can keep up with the wear and tear the system accumulates. Be sure to schedule maintenance every spring and fall if you can. Failing that, every winter and summer will work, too.
