How Zone Control can Benefit Your Heating System

We’re not too far away from heating season. We may get hit with cold weather a little bit later than other parts of the country, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good idea to skip preparing for when it arrives. One of the ways that you can ensure that your heating system is in the best possible shape for the coming winter is to have zone control installed in your home. Read on to find out more about zone control, and how it can benefit you this year.

Zone Control

A zone control system uses a number of dampers, which are like large valves, to control the flow of air through your ducts. The dampers are installed throughout the ducts, splitting them up into different zones. A thermostat is installed in each zone, which controls both the climate control systems and the dampers in that zone. When the thermostat detects that it needs heat, it opens the dampers and activates the climate control system. The dampers outside of that zone remain closed, funneling all the output from the heater into one place.

Advantages of Zone Control

Normally, centralized heating systems can only heat all of the home, or none of it. This leads to a lot of wasted energy on areas like empty rooms, as well as places with different insulation than the rest of the house. Zone control grants much more control over which parts of the house receive output, and how much. This cuts down on energy waste, and makes your home much more comfortable. If you’re looking for a way to improve your heating situation this winter, a zone control system might be the perfect way to do it.
